Perspective Shift

I had a perspective shift.  Sometimes it is almost annoying to be making a call and having to push a number for English.  And it isn't that I think there shouldn't be a choice...I just think that I shouldn't have to for my language when my language is the language of the country.  Perhaps push a number for all the other languages. But it isn't a big annoyance or even an all the time annoyance.  I  have friends and relatives who are always annoyed and more by it.  The sentiment is if you come here you should learn the language.

My dentist is Hispanic.  I'm not sure which country she is from but English is not her first language and she does pretty well.  However, I, at times, do not understand everything she tells me.  Like she gave me a prescription and I had no clue what it was for until I picked it up and the pharmacist told me.  I'm sure she told me but I didn't get it.  And as I sat there I realized just a little bit that this must be what someone goes through who does not understand my language completely.  It was an aha moment.

Sometimes until you experience something yourself, you really do not have a good understanding.  As I experience more I am able to apply it to all of my life and go 'oh, so that is what that was about'.

So now I understand better all the options on the phone.  All the options to read things in different languages.  It is inclusive and should be.
